Engraved with Crown and cipher ER VIII, "Accession January 20th 1936 Coronation May 12th 1937, The Friend of His People". 13.3cm tall with a 8.0cm bowl. The tankard was made during the short period of Edward VIII reign between the date of his intended coronation being announced his abdication. He was succeeded by his younger brother Albert (George VI) who was crowned on May 12. Thomas Goode and Co are still operating from South Audley Street in Mayfair. This was when The'Spare' became not just the heir and didn't need to write a book bemoaning his lot.

I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
